Speakers:

1) “Andrew McGee”
Chief Technology Officer – Australia & New Zealand
Hitachi Data Systems

Andrew McGee has been working for over 20 years in the IT industry, supporting customers in industries as diverse as finance and banking, government, mining, manufacturing and insurance.

Andrew joined Hitachi Data Systems in 2006 and currently leads the Australia and New Zealand Presales team. As ANZ CTO he works to ensure that Hitachi solutions continue to innovate and align with Australian customers.

Prior to HDS Andrew has technical experience with mainframe storage and systems programming, cross platform storage networking and enterprise backup. He has held positions with Unisys, EDS and the Northern Territory Government in both senior technical or management capacities.

2) “David Wilde”
Network Architect
AARNET

David Wilde joined AARNet in 2010, taking on responsibility for Network Architecture during 2011. David’s current focus is on developing the new architecture and driving the rollout of the “AARNet4” project, upgrading AARNet’s transmission and IP networks to 100Gbps capabilities. He has a particular interest in ensuring that AARNet rides at the forefront of technology, engaging with both vendors and other NRENs across the world, in order to better support the R&E activities and services required by AARNet’s customers and users.

David began his career in computer networks at the University of New South Wales, and has since worked in a variety of technical and managerial roles for telecommunications operators and service providers across Australia and Europe. Prior to joining AARNet he was founder and CTO of a boutique Cisco Certified network integrator in France.

David holds a B.E.(Hons) and a B.Sc. from Monash University, and has maintained his active CCIE certification since 2001.

3) “Trent O’Callaghan”
Sales Engineer
Nextgen Group

Trent O’Callaghan works with Nextgen Group who is a leading supplier of network connectivity, Data Centre facilities and cloud services to Australian businesses, government agencies and telecommunications service providers. Trent responds to potential and existing clients with urgent commercial requests, providing service pricing, along with Nextgen and Industry knowledge.

4) “Robert Mollard”
Sr. Storage Specialist, Asia Pacific
SGI

Rob has more than a decade of experience designing, architecting, and implementing storage and backup solutions for myriad large organisations. He has designed Enterprise Backup and SAN solutions, both centralised and distributed. He has worked on many Big Data solutions for distribution and data protection. He has extensive experience with a variety of HSM technologies, designing and running several large-scale Active Archive storage environments. Rob has designed and implemented a variety of high performance parallel file system solutions for many compute environments, both large and small. Rob brings all this knowledge and experience together to deliver a holistic view of the data storage life cycle management.

5) “Dr George Beckett”
Deputy Director and Head of the Supercomputing Team.

George’s previous role was as Senior Project Leader at EPCC, the leading European supercomputing centre at the University of Edinburgh. During his time at EPCC, George managed a number of high-profile, international projects including being a team leader on the DEISA infrastructure and overall project manager for the middleware program on the International Lattice Data Grid. George has a research background in computational mathematics. He was a research fellow in the Numerical Analysis Group at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, has an Honours Degree in Mathematics from New College, Oxford and a Ph.D. in Computation Mathematics from the University of Strathclyde.
